Our Functional Design Audit is a valuable tool for planning universal design remodeling projects and new construction. We dig into detail about an existing home (or set of plans) and explain what features need to be considered for true universal design. Imagine having as many ideas as possible before a hammer is lifted, regardless if you're a contractor, designer, or homeowner.
The purpose of our functional design audit is to help you make educated, proactive decisions about crafting as much universal access and usability as possible into a home, even if everything can't be done at once. Overlooking something important can cost homeowners much more than money.
There's a big difference between a home that includes some universal design features and a truly universally-designed home. Our benchmark is the latter. We analyze over 240 characteristics and features that, when integrated together, really do make a home accessible and welcoming for anyone.*
Our audit has a rating system built into the analysis to provide measurable feedback about the level of universal access and user-friendliness. The higher the rating, the more functional the design. We encourage taking the survey twice (before and after work is done) to measure improvement. There's no extra cost for doing so, and it's super useful for documenting your progress.
It's not enough for our homes to be safe, comfortable, and convenient to live in. The design of our communities directly impacts how easily and safely people can leave their homes, get from place-to-place, shop for essentials, participate in leisure & recreation, and stay healthy and active.
